DAYSEE Doom has drawn barrier 20 in the Tatt’s Tiara but trainer Ron Quinton isn’t fazed. “She’s always been pretty unlucky in the draws wherever she goes but I am not disheartened by it at all,” he told Sportsman. “All the good judges in years gone by used to say that they could win from bad alleys over 1350m at Doomben, not so the 1000m or the 1200m. “I learnt that lesson myself as a jockey when I elected not to go up to ride a horse in the Doomben 10,000 one year that drew the 20 alley. “I rang a couple of good judges in Queensland I said ‘they can’t win from out there can they?’ and they said ‘yes they can’. I said ‘you blokes have got to be kidding’ so I stayed at home and the horse, one of Neville Begg’s called Hit It Benny, romped home,” Quinton recalled. “Daysee Doom will start from 15 of 16 (with emergencies out). “I would have preffered it better but that’s the way it happens.” Daysee Doom, Quinton’s third winner as a trainer of the Coolmore Classic, his fifth if you add his two in the saddle, has been primed for a second Group 1 victory this weekend with a leisurely trial at Randwick One June 12. “I didn’t want her to do much more than that. “We just needed a gallop without over doing it. “At the end of the day, she only had two weeks off after the Coolmore Legacy (on April 14), and she comes to hand pretty quick anyway,” Quinton explained.
