Boutique Randwick trainer Ron Quinton capped off a terrific year when Martilago proved too classy for her rivals in Wednesday’s Ibis Milano Restaurant Handicap (1400m) at Warwick Farm.

Quinton has around 20 horses in work but still managed to saddle up 19 winners from 121 starters in the 2013-14 season.

Racenet reported on March 27 that Quinton had saddled up 27 runners since January 25, winning six with only five missing out on a top five finish.

"It’s been a really good year and I’m very happy with Sam (Clipperton),” Quinton said.

The apprentice outrode his claim at last Wednesday’s Canterbury meeting and piloted Martilago on Wednesday.

"I was pretty confident she was ready to win,” Quinton said of the three-year-old who started $4.80 after opening at $13 on Tuesday.

"But Sam’s ride was brilliant. He just let her find a rhythm early and got nice and balanced before asking her for an effort.”

Martilago had form around the likes of Shamalia and Forever Loved last campaign and had been in work since May.

Quinton said he was unsure of where the daughter of Encosta De Lago would head next.
