SEVEN days after Dixie Blossom’s great return in the Tramway, it is Daysee Doom’s turn to open her spring campaign in Saturday’s Group 2 ATC Sheraco Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill. This is the same race Daysee was third in last year, two weeks later she won the Group 2 Golden Pendant. I nominated for the Theo Marks too but Trapeze Artist is in that and he’s won three Group 1’s so we thought we’d stick to the Sheraco. Daysee is the highest rated mare but she might be a touch vulnerable at 1200m, she seems to be just that little bit better over a touch further – 1300m up to 1500m I suppose because she won the Coolmore. In saying that, she is probably well placed in the Sheraco, she gets a 4kgs penalty for winning the Coolmore but she’s still probably will weighted. She is only going to carry 5kgs over the limit so she’s still better off in the Sheraco compared to the Theo Marks. She might be quite as comfortable as in a 1300m or 1400, that is one thing against us, but she trialled nicely and she’s on her way again. She didn’t need a hard trial because she only had three weeks off after Brisbane so she still retained quite a bit of residual fitness. On top of that, she is fairly busy going out onto the track so she keeps herself pretty fit. She will probably go the Golden Pendant next start and we will just where we are at after that. I am not completely sure about her at 1600m, we will just play it by ear and see how we go after these first couple of runs.
